Endodontics is the area of dentistry dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the dental pulp.
Endodontic Therapy (or Root Canal Therapy) is a treatment designed to save diseased or injured teeth. The alternative to Root Canal Therapy is extraction.
Root Canal Therapy is necessary when the nerve of a tooth (or pulp) becomes diseased or infected. In such cases the nerve of the tooth must be removed. If a patient’s tooth pulp becomes irritated, bacteria will begin to grow within the tooth. This growth results in pressure and causes pain as well as possible facial swelling to the patient. If a Root Canal is not performed, eventually bacteria will destroy the pulp. The bone structure around the tooth will then become infected and may cause an abscess and may result in tooth loss.
Previously, if a tooth became diseased or infected it would have simply been removed. Today however, every possible step is taken to save all teeth and keep you with your natural teeth for life.
To conclude if Root Canal Therapy is necessary x-rays would be taken at your dental consultation. After which point a series of appointments would be assigned to you for your Root Canal Therapy.
Throughout your treatment, our dental team will ensure every possible step is taken to make you feel comfortable and at ease. We will make certain all of your questions and queries are answered and that we work together as a team to preserve your teeth.
We have incorporated the Rotary instrumentation technique for shaping and cleaning the canals which makes the appointment periods much shorter and the cleaning more efficient. Our patients experience minimum discomfort during and after Root Canal Treatment.
